Lunch Fashion Bits – Cherine, Nell and Queen Ifrica
Feb 25th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: Jamaican Celebrities, Jamaican Models

If you have a copy of March’s Cosmopolitan issue, you’ll see Jamaican supermodel Nell Robinson in a fashion story gracing not one, not two but all of seven pages in the magazine. Pulse’s star model shows off denim trends in the issue and comes away from her usual sexy image. You can read more about this accomplishment or simply pick up a copy of Cosmo.
Last night was the first Annual Reggae Academy Awards held at the National Indoor Sports Centre and our reggae stars came out in full high fashion. Stay tuned for pics of the fashion, our fave songstress fashionista here at FOS, Miss Cherine Anderson , was dazzling in her usual high-fashion designer gear.
Speaking of hot, Queen Ifrica is a sight to behold in this dazzling red number with yellow and green flower detailing to complete her rasta colours. Truly gorgeous!
Update: Thanks to my FOS readers who tells me Queen Ifrica’s dress was made by Imani of the House of Tafari . Thanks guys, y’all have my back! And great work Imani!

Lawd God! There should have been a Fashion Police here this evening, NUFF people woulda been arrested. Where Marcia a go wit dat dey dress. It’s either the necklace, the dress, or the earrings, NOT all 3. Dat dey headwrap nah mek it. Queen, GORGEOUS dress (where’d you get it???) but where are your accessories??
Queen IFrica looked absolutely SMASHING!
Dior, Versace, Cavalli – has NOTHING on her dress from House of Tafari Collection, the designer is Imani. House of Tafari Collections has a lot of fabulous designs for both men and women!
Thanks for the info on her dress LMC, i’ll have to check them out
D, I did notice the lack of accessories on Queen Ifrica as well, but had to pass it up on account of her dress. it wasnt expected from her so she still passed with flying colours, i’m sure next time she’ll be complete
Ifrica dress sell off indeed. One thing tho. She has nice hair, she shoulda let it out… di head wrap kinda make har look like she a work fi santa claus.
Queen Ifrica Dress is GERGEOUS,but I don’t like the style of her head wrap. She should have wrap it stright up to balance the bottom of the dress. That dress needs an exotic style head wrap, not a style that looks as if she a come from the BOBO Camp. Next time get the wrap right. I also agree with D, she looks so plain without the accessories. She needed something dainty around her neck with some what bold earrings. She should have POPPED it off with soft green and gold accessories.

The dress looks beautiful! How come the designer of this dress wasn’t mentioned in the article, but Versace and Dior was?
Whats up with the DAM peddeler in the back ground. The photographer should of check the back ground before he took this picture. Hello this was the “Reggae Academy Awards” not Coronation Market. The lip stick color no make it with that BEAUTIFUL dress. “Queen Ifrica” you wore the hell out of that dress. Jah know it look like the designer cut it pon you. It fit you good. I can wait to see what you will wear next year.
Jamaican King
Ok so the pic of Cherine in the pink and hat is that what she wore to the awards?

Question to Irie Diva. Is this the same dress that I saw on stage at Tru Juice “Rebel Salute” 2008? I love it, Queen Ifrica looks beautiful wearing it. When I saw her on stage at “Rebel Salute” I love that suite that she was wearing as well. Queen you belong on the red carpet, and congrats to you for all your hard work.
MS. Lynch
Queen Ifrica is saying it all, is she a model by profession or is she an international reggae artist. Oh she is so beautiful. This picture should be used on a major magazine cover. Good Work Imani, you are a number one designer.
Carreen
Queen Ifrica really look like a queen! In America it is crime to touch the red carpet and not big up the designer of your attire – Big Up HOT Collection (House of Tafari). The three designers that got the most coverage happen to be of European descent and the dress that got the most attention and talk happened to be designed by a native of Jamaica – which i think is amazing and proves that all people have something to offer and bring to the table in everything from fashion to music. Big things a go down inna 2,000&LOVE so let’s begin to spread the love and BIG UP are local talent as we continue to lust after the international (mainly European)talent. House of Tafari Collections – Google it, I did!
I’ve visited Imani website, she is a real creative person and knows how to enlighten black women beauty.
Big up sistren
I checked out the House of Tafari website but all i see are headwraps Is there a page for dresses and other outfits?
The stuff i see look very rasstafarian but Ifricas dress look like something i might be interested in
WOW!!!!! Queen Ifrica, you look good inna you clothes, you did a sey one, girl you was wearing the helll out of that dress, dat dey one dey was a cut to fit, neva mind…, a cut above. You had no choice but to look good coming from house of tafari. nuff respect fi house of tafari, Tafari Collection you large and incharge, Versace, Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior, Vera Wang. None a dem no have nothing pon her. One last thing what was up with the Queen Jewels? IN OTHER WORDS WHERE WERE ACESSORIES?
Ms.Lee
Ifrica… Hats Off… I’m loving this look. Despite not being a steriotypical woman, yu still pulled off the Modern Glam Look. Loved that dress in every element, the colour, fit n length was perfect for the occasion. Mi nah lie it look like u did ago collect one Grammy. I beleive the head rap could be a bit fussier, however the one worn did’nt detract from the look. Her make up was clean and nice. Skin was FLAWLESS, she had a true, natural glow. I’m a accesory goddess and I’f I say she did’nt need it she did’nt, this look was clean. All I missed was a oversized coctail ring n thats it.
Yes! indeed I truely agree,Queen Ifrica was FLAWLESS, and ofcourse looked stunning, in other words she was a head turner Many, many, many thanks to Imani from The house Of Tafari Collection, trust me if it was’nt for that outfit Queen Ifrica would’nt have gotten so much props, cause I have seen her in VIDEOS, and she needed the fashion police. Respect to you too Ms.Tyana (make-artist/stylist) you did your part.
ONE LOVE!
Ms.Lee
THE NEW WAVE OF FASHION THAT QUEEN IFRICA HAS BEEN WEARING LATELY ( IN HER LATEST VIDEO ;THE AWESOME SUIT PERFORMED IN AT THE BIG RAGGAE CONCERT IN JAMAICA (JAN 2008) AND NOW THAT FIERCE RED DRESS WORN ON THE RED CARPET FOR THE RAGGAE ACADEMY AWARDS. GIRL,THIS IS A TRUE UPGRADE FROM QUEEN IFRICA’S PAST RIGS! YA GOTTA GIVE CREDIT WHERE ITS DUE! A BIG “OVERDUE” STANDING OVATION TO THE DESIGNER, WHO WE NOW KNOW IS IMANI OF THE HOUSE OF TAFARI.
YOUR CREATIONS ARE FABULOUS MY SISTAH!!!!
Wow! wearing the proper clothing, sure did make Queen Afrika looks like a MILLION BUCKS. Girl! you need to keep your designer, cause you sure did look Dam GOOD ! BIG UP TO iMANI, House of Tafari collections. Big ship sailing on the ocean!!!!! we dont need no comotion.
Fashion Police.
Clearly many of you guys work for house of tafari or whatever the designer is called. Let’s be real, the dress is a great color, but beyond that its quite ordinary. All this commotion because for once Ifrica looks a little cleaned up and attempts to go outside of her usual realm. there’s nothing that strong about the dress itself. For one, the designer should have chosen a slightly less droopy, less parachute nylon lookin silk. The result is that the rosette looks tired and wilted, kind of like those fake plastic flowers country pple have on their whatnots in their living room. The piping along the top is not a bad attempt, but in general the dress lacks good enough detail to warrant credit for good design. Props to ifrica for her decision to try look a little more cleaned up than her normal street look. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves in self-promotion.The dress is nothing major.
Everyone has the right to their opinion, it is what it is , all mi know sey at the end of da day, nite , evening whatever…. Queen Ifrica looked good. and speaking of droopy and nylon looking silk, anyone who knows fabric they would know that, dat dey material no cheap!!! so stop the critiscisim!!!!!!!!!
A me that!!!!!!!
This is directed to Ms. Opininnated, FYI Queen Ifrica always looks clean. She just decided to try a new look.
Please stop dissing Rasta. Queen you look beautiful and I like your dress as well. Keep on making hits and sporting beautiful clothing. Judging from the name I am sure House of Tafari collection, designer is a rasta as well. Big up to all Rastafarian who are progressive. Designer keep on designing beautiful clothing and Queen Ifrica keep on shinning.

To opinionated, because people have the eye to recognize talent when they see it, does not mean that they “work” for HOTC, first off. Second off, her collection NOR her name are not “whatever.” I am sure had the name not had “Tafari” in it, but instead some European/non-Rasta, nor an Africanized name, you would have been bigging up the designer. Thirdly, if you one know so much about fabric then you would not need for me to inform you of the high end quality of silk dupioni, the skill it takes to manipulate such a fabric, especially to pull off the said style. “Ordinary” is a word used by people who are unable to see through meticulous effort put forth on a 100% hand made piece of art. Tell me, how many designers whose work is not “ordinary” not only create the design for themselves but labor at their machine to ensure that the essence, personality, and individuality of the one wearing the piece of art is exemplified. Not many. Your choice of vocabulary is suggestive of some sort of animosity, whether or not that is the case, that is how it is coming off. While I do not work for HOTC in the traditional sense of the word, I highly respect the sistren who created this fashion line from she was a youth and still prevails in the industry, with her head held high, never losing herself along the trying journey. Silk dupioni and the material used to make the “plastic flowers country pple have on their whatnots in their living room” are two completely different classes of materials, style, and class. Not only is this comment prejudicial to “country” people but it is clear that your knowledge of fabrics is limited. I would love to know who is wearing your designs and what you consider to be “major” with “good enough detail to warrant credit.” Nuff love to Imani of HOTC who not only designed Queen Ifrica’s dress for the award show but also, her wrap dress for her “Daddy” video, her piece for Rebel Salute 2000 love, where designer Imani was the FIRST designer to grace the stage of Rebel Salute with a fashion show. Imani is a woman who maintains her connections to her roots while uplifting, empowering, and inspiring men, women, youth of the Diaspora and beyond through the use of textiles. Nuff love and keep doing what you do. Never let the heathen dem get you down!
D…, nuff respect my sistren, you said it all, we give credit where its due. mi dun talk. Like I said every one has a right to their opinion (FREEDOM OF SPEECH)
Irie Diva,
Thanks for the info on the designer Imani. I did check out her site and her head wrap designs are beautiful.
I will pass the info on to my friends who wear head wraps. I think it’s great that tony featured her pieces on his show. i must say that i didn’t expect a fashion show at rebel salute, but it was quite refreshing. Her designs are of high quality. Keep up the good work.
Ms. Lyncu
