What’s the latest with men’s fashion?

According to My FOS partner Adrain, it is Christian Audigier and his flamboyant pieces. Christian is the designer of the famed Ed Hardy line and and his more premium self-titled line is…apparently…all the craze. So I did a little googling to familiarize myself with the line, since my co-workers are of the same view as Adrain. The Christian Audigier line is very much Ed Hardy like, bright, bold and very patterned. He himself says “his designs appeal to people who want to inject a little fun into their wardrobes or those who just want to get noticed” Clearly this is why this line speaks so well to our dancehall stars that rock Ed Hardy to every Hot Monday, Early Tuesday, Weddy Wednesay, Bembe Thursday, Dutty Friday alike! Here’s an article on the designer himself, its a very good read especially if you want to be a designer yourself as he shares a few of his marketing tips. The male line is VERY flashy and I had a hard time picking out a shirt I’d buy for my hunny, so I asked Rain to pick out his favorites:

OMG that blue one is just hideous! Guys, are you really feeling this line? The female line, I ADORE! The dresses are to die for and it was hard for me to pick favourites. Bubble hemlines, bloussant dresses and peasant tops, all flattering to the curvier woman like myself and gorgeous minis and cinched waisted dresses for the modelesque. So while I’m not a fan of his male tees, his female line “a happen, a occur, it sell and a mek a profit!” which is Jamaican slang for its great! He brings his flavour to the leggings trend as well and while the gold and silver might be a little too trendy for me…those black ones are the business. At $300 a pop for a dress though, I’m only admiring right now. Check him out ChristianAudigier.com

  1. have never really liked Ed Hardy, and worse now that it’s been played out and jacked up by cheap knock-offs, you’d probably never see me in one… I mean, why fork out the hundred or so dollars for an authentic one when everybody and dem modda (or fadda) have it outta road for 20. The problem though is that the Ed Hardy line is so distinctive, that he really adds nothing to his own designs, and they just look like Ed Hardy shirts with his name on it, which is slightly disappointing, especially since the Ed Hardy line was supposedly inspired by the tattoo artist… Audigier needs a new muse.

  2. I actually agree with you Ryan, when i first saw it i immediately assumed it was ed hardy too…his premium line should have been a little different….IMO

  3. Def. look like same designs, based on the article link he works for them right? So it’s a little silly that his own line is similar. Here today, gone tomorrow kinda look if you ask me. The women’s stuff look better that the mens. I kinda like that Gray tunic looking ensemble, but nothing i’d spend more that a few dollas on or keep in my closet more than a season

  4. i Love the dresses/blouses,and like the black mens shirt, but the rest like tights are hideous

  5. I was wondering what the deal was wth these shirts. Too flamboyant if you ask me. Oh, and thanks again ID. I’ve almost completed my wardrobe transformation (y’kno, that whole polo-shirts-for-more-tee-and-dress-shirts thing).

  6. I see everybody up here ( Tampa) wearing this man’s clothes. Black, white ,chinese it nuh matter. I did not think those kind of loud shirts would a wear in Jamaica too but I guess you never know. I am not a big fan of the male clothing but the female clothing nuh look too bad

  7. One cannot talk about Christian without mentioning Don Hardy, the famed tattoo artist from which all these elaborate designs arise. Many might not know or even realize that the symbols/designs on these apparels are actually tattoo transfers. I’m not big on any clothes that has a lot of markings on them, though I love the symbols, in my opinion, I think it stupid to wear clothes with the actual name of it showing. Though this is ideal for those of us who are engulfed in popular culture; it is actually a very clever way for designers to market their product, in essence free advertising. Well its more than free advertising, because the consumer actually pay the designer to advertise for them, how ironic.

Anyway, I don’t see Audigier as any big designer, though I think he has a great sense of marketing and knows what it takes to rise to the top in the fashion industry. You might remember remember Von Dutch, popular brand that took off. Audigier was the driving force behind Von Dutch’s rise to glory. Von Dutch, the person by the way, was, among other things, an artist. Sounds similar?
