The Red Wedding dress…do you dare?

Posted by Irie Diva On July - 14 - 2008

I came across this blog featuring a red wedding dress and wondered how many of my readers would dare to try it out. I think we Caribbean people are a very traditional set of folk when it comes to these ceremonies…weddings, funerals, baby christenings and the like. I have to say that I absolutely love this dress but I’m not sure I’m brave enough to get married in it. I would definitely go the honey route though (pictured below) with maybe olive green bridesmaid dresses? And if you went the red dress route…what color dresses would you put your bridesmaids in?

Justin Alexander is the designer of this beautiful dress and you can find more from him here .

Yeah man… I would rock any of these dresses for my wedding. I’m all about setting my own trends in everything I do. Heck, I was thinking bout black! Besides… who the hell am I kidding with a white dress, right?

  2. Jhay says:

    I CONDONE THIS WHOLE-HEARTEDLY!.
Break the mold with a coloured dress! Bride in red..bridesmaids could be in pink, black or heck, y not, white even! Its 2008 – Out with Traditionalism and in with the contemporary!!

  3. Kasmira says:

In China, brides wear red because white is the color of death. I’m not Chinese (my stepdad is), but I’d totally rock the red if I married again.

Oh, and I’d skip the bridesmaids the second time.

  4. Somi says:

The red is ugly. I wouldn’t mind a red dress, but definitely not in this style. For such a heavy color it may be best to go with something not as crowded in order to pull of a nice, elegant look. In red this dress in just gaudy.

    I love it in Honey!

A red wedding dress….white brides maid dresses :) i think it’s a nice, elegant backdrop.

  5. Mala says:

I’m digging it! Both of them. My parents would have a conniption but I’d think very hard about a red Wedding Dress.

  6. Sam says:

I like them! I totally disagree with the white dress tradition. Your wedding dress should express your personality, so let it be red if that’s your colour.

  7. Bella! says:

  14. Irie Diva says:

    Hey Rebecca

The only colours i can think of are cream/beige…gold…silver, white and black

red and black would be KILLER…but not very traditional at all…i dunno if you want to go so extreme

I found a red wedding dress I fell in love with a while ago and cannot wait to get married (still almost 2 years away set for Dec of 2010) But I am doing the whole red and black thing at my wedding. The church even has red carpets that match the dress so it will look as though my dress melts into the carpet which is kinda cool. The bridesmaids are going to be in black and I’m even going to have a black and red wedding cake. I absolutely LOVE that color combination. The dress is Maggie Sottero’s Fiorenza.

I LOVE THE RED DRESS — AND WILL BE GETTING MARRIED IN A RED DRESS VERY SIMILAR TO THIS SHOWN,

I am with the others, white may be tradition, but it is also tradition to marry before sex or living together. If I have broken those rules, am I still pure??? NOPE go with RED, and as for my bridesmaids, they will be wearing black, for a true LBD, something they really can wear again :)

  17. ashley says:

I am wearing a red wedding dress, and my wedding party will be in tiffany blue with red accents.

  18. Isabelle says:

Go for it ! break the mould, be brave ! I got married in a bright red silk dress and that was in 1995, and I would do it again, with a black combination.

About Me

HI! This is Irie Diva, a young Jamaican woman who graduated from the University of Technology, Jamaica with a business degree in marketing. She hails from the city of Kingston and knew from early out that she wanted to be in media or fashion but had a hard time finding a likable path into either industry. After working in several sales and entry-level business positions and one short-lived stint in fashion media advertising, she finally took the plunge of carving out her own slice of the pie, combining the two industries to create Fashion Over Style.
