StyleWeek Jamaica shows off the men’s collections

May 25th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: Fashionable Events, Featured Articles, Jamaican Designers, Jamaican Models, Male Style

Styleweek Jamaica is well under way and will culminate tonight with it’s history making catwalk in the middle of Kingston’s busy busy business district (well on a Sunday night there’s not much business eh) and I can’t wait to be front and centre. The shows have been great thus far, with the normal setbacks such as HUMONGOUS delays between collections (man, we need to get over this ish!) but its all fab none-the-less.

Here’s your favorite fashionista snapping a shot with hottie model Tafari Hinds of GQ and French Connection fame. He’s such a gracious soul.

I also spotted Saint Top model Canise mingling in the crowd in a FABULOUS pair of black mary-janes with a red heel. She rocked it well in all black including the full length black leggings you all know I adore. Hot eh?

Of course I’m not about to leave you all out of the scene. I got a few clips of the final walks especially the fabulous Les Campbell, noted Jamaican menswear designer, Rojoe from Barbados and the dynamic Dexter Pottinger closing the show with the 3D 08 line. Check the vid for the fabulosity below.

What Went Down at Miss Jamaica Universe?

Apr 13th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: All Jamaican, Beauty, Fashionable Events, Featured Articles, Jamaican Models

Details are sketchy but I do hear summn went down last night at MJU 2008 with star performer Miss Keyshia Cole. Unfortunately I couldn’t be there, I think I need an intern! However that won’t stop me from getting the juice for y’all. But hey, the show is all about the beauties and not the star they got to bring up ticket sales right? So who won? We’ll get to that in a minute. This year Pulse stepped their game up twenty-fold, landing sponsorship with Worldwise Partners and Stewart Motors to giveaway a brand new BMW and a million dollars worth of cold hard cash, that’s about US$14g for my non-Jamaican folks, plus a bevy of additional prizes. I wonder what my dear friend and outgoing queen Zahra Redwood thinks of this upgrade? Zahra "neva get no car!" We’ll soon find out about that, but here are your winner and runner-ups. I went through the facebook group for the event and my friends and I thought that one of the runner-ups would have taken the crown for sure. Congrats to April, I envy your new ride!

Lunch Fashion Bits - Cherine, Nell and Queen Ifrica

Feb 25th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: All Jamaican, Featured Articles, Jamaican Celebrities, Jamaican Models

If you have a copy of March’s Cosmopolitan issue, you’ll see Jamaican supermodel Nell Robinson in a fashion story gracing not one, not two but all of seven pages in the magazine. Pulse’s star model shows off denim trends in the issue and comes away from her usual sexy image. You can read more about this accomplishment or simply pick up a copy of Cosmo.

Last night was the first Annual Reggae Academy Awards held at the National Indoor Sports Centre and our reggae stars came out in full high fashion. Stay tuned for pics of the fashion, our fave songstress fashionista here at FOS, Miss Cherine Anderson, was dazzling in her usual high-fashion designer gear.

Speaking of hot, Queen Ifrica is a sight to behold in this dazzling red number with yellow and green flower detailing to complete her rasta colours. Truly gorgeous!

Update: Thanks to my FOS readers who tells me Queen Ifrica’s dress was made by Imani of the House of Tafari. Thanks guys, y’all have my back! And great work Imani!

Tennith Atterbury: Jamaican Fashion Model

Jan 5th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: All Jamaican, Jamaican Models

Tennith Atterbury is another gorgeous face coming out of Pulse’s Annual Caribbean Model Search. She was a finalist in 2004 and has been modeling since then. She’s a Jamaican by birth and is still based here and managed by Pulse. But with such a smashing appearance, its only a matter of time before she hits the big runway. She’s currently studying Business Management and Advanced Mathematics (she’s a brainy one eh) with the hopes of becoming an IT Project Manager somewhere down the line. That’s of course if she doesn’t blow up into supermodel status before. She’s also working on that so lets keep our fingers crossed for Miss Atterbury.

She admits to being an ANTM junkie, (America’s Next Top Model) taking advice from Tyra and the crew as if they were being given out to her. So far her work includes music videos and commercials, party appearances, gigs here in Jamaica and in Miami and of course modeling at the coveted Caribbean Fashion Week each year, another Pulse production. She names her favorite local designer as Lubica, a designer that she has modeled for on many occasions. (Lubica is one of my faves as well and you can keep posted to FOS for more on her)

For fun, Tennith loves to surf the internet; she’s a blog reader (love you guys) and a facebook junkie like myself. She also loves to hang and socialize and teases me about being paid to party, how cool is that huh… Link with Tennith on her myspace if you wanna and enjoy more gorgeous pics of her in the FOS Gallery!

The Pulse Model Agency PR machine is in on full grind pumping out releases on all things Pulse as usual. This time around they publicize Jamaican model Nikki Vassell in last week’s issue of the Flair. You can read the entire article here, I liked the fact that she was doing other things with her time…you know…just in case she breaks a leg or grows a zit or something, excerpt:

“Nikki has not only created a stir in fashion circles but in fine arts as well. She enrolled in a liberal arts degree programme in Manhattan and after her first semester, had an amazing 4.0 grade point average. She began working in the art world after completing her degree and is currently, the director at Deitch Gallery located in SoHo, Manhattan.

“There is so much fluidity. You get to learn everything,” gushes Nikki about her job as Dietch Director. This spring, she organised her own exhibition project, titled, ‘Powers of 10: Successive Orders of Formal and Psychological Magnitude’. She also coordinated the gallery’s recent Francesco Clemente exhibition and accompanying catalogue, ‘Francesco Clemente Works 1971-1979′, which was on view May 3-June 2.”

Well, it’s a holiday here in Jamaica so I’m off to the beach now, pics of beach fashion to come! :D toodles fabulous ones…in the meantime join our facebook group and add us as a friend on myspace. The links are in the sidebar as well FYI

Oraine Barrett - Jamaican Fashion Model

Sep 6th, 2007 | By Irie Diva | Category: All Jamaican, Jamaican Models, Male Style

Well Pulse Entertainment holds its annual Caribbean Model Search live finals this Friday and I thought I’d let you in on former winner Oraine Barrett, what has the competition done for him?

Oraine Barrett grew up in rural St. Elizabeth, Jamaica loving football. That’s what his life was about mostly until he kind-of collided with modeling. I asked him how he ended up entering Model Search in the first place:

actually my brother’s girlfriend was the one interested but she was shy to go to pulse and give it a shot so my brother asked me to give it a shot so that his girlfriend can have someone to flex with. it eventually paid off. i was 19 at the time. when i entered the competition i was still in high school but i didn’t let many people know that i entered because i did not want anyone to give me negative reactions. i only told four persons at my school, my best friend, my gym partner, one of my coaches and my then girlfriend. i wasnt considering model because that wasnt my dream. football was the ultimate. I was offered a [football] scholarship [from a US college] but my papers went through too late so i couldn’t get to continue my education. that summer of 04 i was confused because i didnt know what i was going to do and modeling was the only other option which i didnt have any clue about. that was one of the most difficult periods in my life.

Skinny Models

Jul 27th, 2007 | By Irie Diva | Category: All Jamaican, Jamaican Models

skin and bones

I’ma jump on the bandwagon for a little bit and say what is up with these skinny models?!?!?! Honestly, these women can’t weigh more than 100 pounds and at 5’8, that’s damn near death if you ask me. Guys, is this sexy? Ladies, is this what we want to look like? Do we want to wear these designers clothing? Is this what we are dieting for? HELL NO!!! They can keep those designs, meantime please get them skeletons some food, some good Jamaican stew chicken wit dumpling, yam and banana should hit the spot, or some ackee and salt fish wit bammy and festival, mmmmmmmmmmm We Jamaicans, men and women alike, we like a woman “roun like a English pound” Nothing’s more sexy than some curves and we make this statement even with some of our very own top models Nell Robinson and Carla Campbell.
