African Connection by Gary Codner

Jun 20th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: CFW Ja Designers

You know…the Cooyah guy…yeah that’s him. Cooyah was…maybe still is the biggest, most recognizable t-shirt brand in Jamaica. At one point supply could not meet demand and people were getting tired of seeing the same designs everywhere and so its rep has somewhat dwindled. Therefore, when I heard about Gary Codner, who’s in part responsible for Cooyah’s success, showing a line at CFW that was all his, i was sure this would be a good line. A capitalization on everything he’s done at Cooyah. Alas, I was to be disappointed.

He calls it African Connection and I’m still trying to figure out why. Because of the traditional print scarf?

The animal print top?

Maybe this is hemp?

Maybe they wear alot of white tees over in the motherland.

Maybe I’m really not seeing it…here’s the line guys . Please help me to figure out exactly what’s going on.

Maybe I should have asked Nia if she sniffed some of the hemp dress. K, I’m gonna behave and sit my behind down now. :)

Were you Born as a Raggamuffin?

Jun 20th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: CFW Intl Designers

We’re gonna need some fabric on that skirt there…i can see your panties hun.

Born as a Raggamuffin [USA] is a funky, edgy line consisting of minis and tees, some of which look like Edward Scissor-hands ran wild with. They describe themselves as "2 young designers trying to make something out of nothing. Raised wild in the hills of Jamaica and el barrio de Santo Domingo. Self-taught…All pieces are hand sewn, and made from recycled materials or whatever else catches our eyes. The influence for this season was "poetry in motion". Originally poets - We scavenged our notebooks, CD racks and Bookshelves for some of our favorite quotes and sewed them in to the fabric of our clothes."

Hhhhhhhmmmmmmm

I think I’d be afraid to put this piece on for fear of ripping it. (OMG the shoes are SO hot i need them)

Cute dress

The designers…are these Raggamuffin dresses too? Very different from the actual line… I love me some young designers…but I’m honestly not feeling the cut up tees.

Vanessa Williams loves Gavin Douglas

Jun 20th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: CFW Intl Designers

She must…since she lost her zipper backstage (either that or homegirl just couldn’t fit in the dress!) and came down the catwalk seemingly arm in arm with the designer…but he was actually helping to hold together the back of her dress! LOL poppyshow ting!

She’s gorgeous though. Miss Nia Long also came down the catwalk for Mr Gavin

And uhm….i’m gonna need this dress in my life…with the shoes to match. Thanks Mr. Douglas.

Ix-nay on the hat though…muchas gracias.

Gavin reps for the UK, collection can be viewed here .

Jun 20th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: CFW Caribbean Designers

Barbados has a thriving fashion industry and brings across a large contingent of models, designers, buyers and personalities each year to CFW. I’ve already shown you the casual designs of 3rd Revolt, now Ashakai brings us swimsuits, Bouik brings swimsuits as well as some funk and some sophistication and Luna brings us some the most beautiful non-metal jewelery I’ve seen.

Ashakai

Kerri you missed Chris! The Bajan models were hot…

Bouik started with dancers blazing the catwalk

Then came with the funk

And ooooohhhh I love me some Luna

Biggy’s back with the heat!

Jun 20th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: CFW Ja Designers

Last year we missed Biggy dearly from the CFW lineup and he made up for it twofold with his sizzling collection this year. The line was blazing everything from jeans to sheer dresses to long flowy dresses to sexy summer tops! Biggy is a favorite amongst Jamaican designers and many persons stayed back at the very long and late Sunday showing awaiting his line. It was worth the wait. See it here .

Ndjamena Caprice from Guadeloupe

Jun 19th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: CFW Caribbean Designers

Don’t ask me to pronounce the name but the collection was pretty…pretty colourful! I must admit I really love all the colour that is coming from the runways this season and Ndjamena capitalized on this trend with bright, cheery pieces. Very flowy, very Caribbean, very cool…or maybe I should say very HOT. See the collection here.
