Were you Born as a Raggamuffin?

Jun 20th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: CFW Intl Designers

We’re gonna need some fabric on that skirt there…i can see your panties hun.

Born as a Raggamuffin [USA] is a funky, edgy line consisting of minis and tees, some of which look like Edward Scissor-hands ran wild with. They describe themselves as "2 young designers trying to make something out of nothing. Raised wild in the hills of Jamaica and el barrio de Santo Domingo. Self-taught…All pieces are hand sewn, and made from recycled materials or whatever else catches our eyes. The influence for this season was "poetry in motion". Originally poets - We scavenged our notebooks, CD racks and Bookshelves for some of our favorite quotes and sewed them in to the fabric of our clothes."

Hhhhhhhmmmmmmm

I think I’d be afraid to put this piece on for fear of ripping it. (OMG the shoes are SO hot i need them)

Cute dress

The designers…are these Raggamuffin dresses too? Very different from the actual line… I love me some young designers…but I’m honestly not feeling the cut up tees.

Vanessa Williams loves Gavin Douglas

Jun 20th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: CFW Intl Designers

She must…since she lost her zipper backstage (either that or homegirl just couldn’t fit in the dress!) and came down the catwalk seemingly arm in arm with the designer…but he was actually helping to hold together the back of her dress! LOL poppyshow ting!

She’s gorgeous though. Miss Nia Long also came down the catwalk for Mr Gavin

And uhm….i’m gonna need this dress in my life…with the shoes to match. Thanks Mr. Douglas.

Ix-nay on the hat though…muchas gracias.

Gavin reps for the UK, collection can be viewed here .

Mashonda opened the line in this cute mini

And I fell in love with this ensemble…bag and all

I actually like Eve’s dress…billboard and all…Go Eve! More from the line here.

Catalin Botezatu is G L A M O R O U S

Jun 18th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: CFW Intl Designers

That’s the only way I can put it. Last year when Catalin Botezatu [Romania] showed for the first time in Jamaica at CFW, I was like……ok…..the pieces were very uhm…lets just say haute couture? You gotta understand, this is an island of summer dresses and jeans maaaan. The dresses themselves were fine, I’m speaking more on the whole presentation…the makeup, the headpieces, the accessories….everything was just very glamorous. It was definitely not commonplace on a Jamaican catwalk, very over-the-top. A line you would expect to see in "Pareeee"

This year, I was a little more prepared. And this year, they brought the GLAMOUR. The line was so haute! Some very red-carpet, some… costume gala…think…dancing with the prince…a very eclectic, very colourful prince mind you…but a prince none-the-less. I LOVED it…i enjoyed every piece.

Vanessa Williams obviously felt so too…she closed the line in this piece with some very interesting poses…

Nice Vanessa….lol

See the entire gorgeous line here .

Apple Bottom falls flat

Jun 17th, 2008 | By Irie Diva | Category: CFW Intl Designers

Apple Bottoms was one of those international lines many people were looking forward to. It’s Nelly’s [the rapper] line after all and should bring the extra oomph right? Well…I must say I was highly disappointed. For a couple of reasons…

a) There wasn’t much of a "line" it was really a couple of pieces.

b) I think it was the "B" line…you know…like when you’re going up against a second rate team (like Bahamas’ football [soccer] team (seven love Jamaica baby!!!) and so you only put out your bench players cus it’ll be a shoo in? Yeah like that. Why do I think so? Because not so long ago BET’s Rip the Runway came on and I really liked Nelly’s line…was this REALLY the same line? Me thinks not.

I could be wrong…check it out for yourself…full line here.
