Female Work Basics

Sep 26th, 2007 | By Irie Diva | Category: Irie Diva's Picks, Style School

Lil munchkin Sarita has said she is totally clueless when it comes to fashion. In fact, her wardrobe compiles of blues, blacks and yeah…all that drab, sorry i meant basic, stuff. So lil munchkin has asked me to point her in the direction of work basics, to complement her basic wardrobe.

Well I don’t have everything to compile a complete work basics post (cus in my view extensive is basic :-D ) , but here are a few items from Ophelia’s to get you started. Ophelia’s is my favorite store to buy unique work pieces from. (unique doesn’t suggest basic eh) They aren’t exactly the cheapest, but you’re clothes will go a long way and you won’t look like everybody else at work. Definitely a plus in my book. They’re not break your bank expensive either or else I wouldn’t be shopping there, trust! They’re located in the New Kingston Shopping Centre (I’m on a roll today I know) So because this is supposed to be a basics post i stuck to solid colours and pieces that can be mixed and matched. The layered look is quite hot, the button ups have cute buttons, belts or are gathered…all of these pieces are somewhat different from the norm. No plain old basic here!

Style Me Please - Time to get grown

Tell me sum’n, I’m more into jeans and long sleeved shirts whenever I’m going out (clubbin’ or whatever)….trying the sophisticated look y’kno. I used to wear polo shirts exclusively but now I’ve branched off into wearing more t-shirts for just going on the road. So yeh…wat’s fashionable in the world of dress shirts? Plaid? stripes? solid colors?

Very good question! Its hard to shop for you men! Seemingly, male fashion evolves at a much slower pace than women. The variations are rarely humongous but the subtle differences make or break a design! I’ve been researching this question all day and found very few results when it comes to new trends in the male fashion world. So what I did instead was to just browse the various brands that I could remember and see what new designs they had to offer. I saw nothing "new" or nothing really "trendy" but what I found were a few classic designs that will always work for parties or chilling. The transition from tees to button downs is one I think most men, or at least most men that are style-aware, go through. At some point they grow up, leaving the all-occasion t-shirt game behind and stepping up to a classier, more mature look. Big man ting! I’m glad GP has made the step over, most t-shirts are definitely for errands and game nights.

Style Find - Wrap Tops

Aug 1st, 2007 | By Irie Diva | Category: Plus Size Rules, Style School

I wear alot of shirt blouses to work because they are comfortable, they give me smooth lines and come in a huge variety of styles and colours to match my mood that day. Its a great way for a bigger person to accentuate the right assets while downplaying other areas. I found a gorgeous array of shirt blouses recently in Brit Bran, they are in Lane Plaza (Constant Spring Road, Jamaica) They were all solid colour pieces, just begging to be accessorized and matched with other fun colours. My Only problem was of course they had mainly mediums and smalls :( There were in a few different styles and in too many colours to list, which is always a good thing. I only found a large in one style though, a wrap style that was very cute and would have been an instant buy had I not been totally penny less that day. It was a bit pricey for a shirt blouse at JA$2850 (a lil less than US$50) that was not any brand I recognized, but it would be a great asset to my wardrobe, do you agree?

Which should I Wear?

So I’m heading out to the club wit ma honey and I have a hot top he hasn’t seen me in yet that i wanted to wear. Its a gorgeous green, black and white number I got in Lane Plaza, a satiny material and a v-neck…perfect to display the girls. I’ve been a bit hesitant to wear it out to a public party because I have been out and seen it before. Anyway i was ready to rock it and knew it would look hot paired with a black bottom. But…I didn’t have a black bottom that matched the cut of the top except these teency lil black shorts…! As a big girl, I try hard to practice good fashion sense, accentuating the right areas and covering up the not-so-right. I took pics of me in my 2 options…cus mirrors never really tell you the truth. I know I have nice legs and so I show them off often, but these shorts were showing way too much for comfort…should I chance it? Do I really look right in these?

Well today I will throw myself at the mercy of the world and allow you to decide…please people be kind to my ego!
